Portobello Juice

Portobello Juice is a juice bar & cafe offering fresh juices, smoothies, all day breakfasts and raw vegan cakes.

They also display the works of local artists which are available to buy with all proceeds going directly to the artists.

Today we were lucky enough to talk with Daniel who is the store manager

Q. How long have you trading at Portobello Market and & what attracted you to open a shop in the area?

Daniel: We have been on Portobello since 2013, the area has a lot of gyms and is home to many personal trainers and their clients and so we saw an opporunity to service these health minded people

Q.What kind of menu items could visitors expect at your café?

Daniel: We have everything from a healthy green juice all the way to a full English breakfast so there is something for everybody.

Q. Do you have a personal favourite juice sourced from the local fruit and veg market you would recommend?

Daniel: Our best selling juice is the green machine made with spinach, apple, celery. cucumber, lime & ginger all delivered daily from one of the traders on Portobello Market itself.

Q. Your store front paintings really stand out and have quickly become iconic, could you tell us about your previous and current incarnations?

Daniel: Our initial shopfront was very shall we say psychedelic at that time we were selling only juices and so the front with its multicolors was a attempt to reflect that, now that we have food we have toned it down slightly whilst still keeping the artistic feel.

Previous shop front

You have to stand out as much as you can and in Portobello with all the different coloured and shapes you have to be bold. The artwork was done by an artist who started out painting t-shirts on Portobello road www.olivierr.com and we spotted his talent early on and got him “cheap” he did our mural and avatar inside the shop too.

Q. And finally, do you have any advice or recommendations for first time Portobello Market visitors?

Daniel: If you like street art then Portobello is home to many famous works, there is a Banksy just around the corner on the wall and Graffik gallery opposite has a must see mural all the way up the front of the building.
