Vida Vida are a leather bag and accessories brand specialising in ethical, handmade products that are built to last.

Today I spoke with Matt & Andreya, creators of Vida Vida and a husband and wife team

How long have you been trading at Portobello Road and what attracted you to bring your business to the area?

We started our business on Portobello Road 12 years ago. We had met some incredible artisans whilst travelling in South America and decided that we wanted to team up with them to develop our own range of handmade products. Portobello Road Market is so famous, and even though we’d only visited once or twice ourselves we knew it would suit what we wanted to sell. We arrived back from 2 years of travelling the world on the Thursday and were selling at the market on the Saturday – we didn’t hang around!

Q.What kind of items could visitors expect to find from you?

We offer a range of handmade leather satchels, messengers, travel bags
and accessories. We love everything vintage and that can really be seen with our signature leathers and traditional styles. Everything on our stall can be hot-pressed with name or initials whilst you wait so you can personalise to make it even more special!

Q.Could you tell us a little bit about your Bag for a Bag charity programme

We wanted to do something good through the business and by chance I met a lovely man who worked for United World Schools. They build and run schools in inaccessible, poverty stricken and/or war torn areas of Cambodia, Nepal and Myanmar, where otherwise the children would have no access to formal education. We thought this was a very worthwhile charity so we provide a school bag to this charity with every sale we make of £25 and up.

Q.Do you have any advice for first time Portobello Market visitors?

First, you should try the best iced strawberry lemonade from the lovely juice stall at 77 Portobello Road then head all the way down the Portobello Road to Golbourne Road, as this area is really buzzing now. Then head down towards Ladbroke Grove station under the Westway- then you won’t miss anything!
